Nancy Dise

  • Nancy Dise is Section Head and Science Area Lead for Biosphere-Atmosphere Interactions at the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Edinburgh, UK. Previous to this she was a Lecturer (1994-2003) and Senior Lecturer (2003-5) at the Open University, UK, and Professor of Environmental Science at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK (2005 -2013).   She was visiting Associate Professor at the Department of Biology in Villanova University, USA in 2004-5 and has held additional visiting scientist or postdoctoral positions in Germany, Switzerland, Norway, the Netherlands, the UK, and the US.
    Nancy Dise’s scientific expertise focuses on the biogeochemistry and biodiversity of a wide variety of terrestrial environments, particularly peatland, grassland, heathland, and forest.  Of special interest is the impact of natural and anthropogenic drivers of change – including reactive nitrogen deposition, air pollution, climate change, episodic or extreme events, and combinations of these drivers – on the ecological structure and biogeochemical functioning of sensitive ecosystems.
